North Lake Tahoe Boat Rental Polices

North Lake Tahoe Boat Rental Policies

Please review North Lake Tahoe Boat Rental’s Polices. If you still have any questions, please call or email us.

You, the charterer, rent and are responsible for the boat. The charterer must provide a valid driver’s license on the day of the rental. The name on the driver’s license must match the name of the card on file. Fuel and captains are separate charges. If you want a captain, you may hire one through or outside of North Lake Tahoe Boat Rental. Captains are not responsible for the vessel.

Insurance is not included. You may purchase or decline Damage and Liability coverage through our partner, vQuip, during check in.

Each type of boat has its own maximum capacity. Anyone who has a heartbeat counts as a passenger. No matter that capacity, bareboat charters cannot exceed 13 people: 12 passengers plus the driver. For larger groups, see our Big Group Options.

The non-refundable 6% booking fee is not included in any refunds, full or partial. Please note that rescheduling or holding a credit makes you ineligible for a monetary refund.

If you did not purchase trip protection: If you cancel 14 days or more before your departure date, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel within 14 days we will issue you a credit for the full amount, or reschedule you. Day-of cancellations are ineligible for refunds or credits, but you may reschedule. If the rental is canceled because of an NLTBR judgment call, we will issue you a full credit or reschedule you.If you purchased trip protection: If you cancel 48 hours or more before your rental, you will receive a full monetary refund. If you cancel within 48 hours, you will receive a full credit. Day-of cancellations will receive a full credit. If the rental is canceled because of an NLTBR judgment call, you may receive a full monetary refund.

Tahoe weather is extremely variable. If you want calm waters, we highly recommend booking in the morning, as the prevailing winds in the afternoon often limit boats to the west shore. We will still send out rentals if it is cold or a little wavy.

NLTBR reserves the right to reschedule due to weather. Safety is our priority and we will not send you out if we do not deem it safe. This is solely NLTBR’s decision and will be made on the DAY OF your rental. Please refer to the cancellation policy for your options in the case of an NLTBR judgment cancellation. If there is a state of emergency (wildfire, weather, etc.) we will hold a FULL CREDIT for you. If AQI is measured DAY OF at 150 AQI, we will reach out to renters. At 201 AQI we cancel all rentals and will issue you a full credit or reschedule you. Credits have no expirations and can be used for ANY future rental with us. If you get less than half of your rental time due to weather, we will compensate for time lost on the lake. Time does not correlate directly to price.

Our boat rentals operate as bareboat charters, meaning fuel and captains are not included. We fill up each boat before and after your rental so that you only pay for what you use. Fuel will be charged to the card on file after your rental generally within 24 hours, but this is subject to weather conditions and gas dock hours.

Fuel is currently $8.69/gal at North Tahoe Marina. Half-day rentals average 10-15 gallons while full days average 15-30 gallons. THIS IS NOT A QUOTE, only an estimate for your budgeting. Fuel consumption varies based on activities, speed, engine off time and other variables.

If you’d prefer a captain to handle the driving, you can hire one through or outside of NLTBR. Our captain’s fee is $50/hour. For half-day rentals (3 ½ hours) this equates to $175 and for full-day rentals (7 hours) it is $350. Typical tip is $100 for a half day and $200 for a full day. With a captain, your rental can dock, anchor, go to an on-shore restaurant, and will have a designated driver. If you would like to add one to your reservation, please call or email us.
